2019 Biology of Pit Vipers 3

This weekend, members of our lab attended the 2019 Biology of Pit Vipers 3 in Rodeo, New Mexico. This was a four-day symposium hosted by the Chiricahua Desert Museum and dedicated to Pit Viper research, including rattlesnakes. Presentation topics included venom research, genetics, snake ecology, and conservation issues. Diego Huerta, a senior in our lab, gave an excellent talk on the three rattlesnake species (Crotalus atrox, Crotalus tigris, and Crotalus molossus) that occur at our study site, Stone Canyon. This was a great experience for Diego, as this was only his second time giving a talk at a herpetology conference! John Bosak, Alexus Cazares, and our P.I. Matt Goode also attended the symposium to support Diego and learn about some of the research that is going on within the field of herpetology.
